Lt. Governor Loren Leman Invites Students Statewide To Participate In Electoral Votes Essay Contest
Anchorage, AK - Lieutenant Governor Loren Leman announces an essay contest open to all eleventh and twelfth grade Alaskans. Essays must discuss the significance of the Electoral College to Alaska and the United States. The winner will be invited to present the essay at the "Casting Alaska's Electoral Votes" event on December 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art auditorium. If the winner is from outside the Anchorage area, travel reimbursement will be provided.
Essay Requirements:
- The entrant must be in the eleventh or twelfth grade.
- To avoid disqualification, a stapled cover sheet must include: your name and address; your e-mail address (if available); the name and address of your high school; and your current grade level.
- The essay must be solely the work of the entrant and no fewer than 300 words and no more than 1,000 words in length. The essay must be type-written and double-spaced.
Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. The topic must focus on the significance of the Electoral College to Alaska and the United States.
One entry per student, please. Entries will not be returned.
Essays must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3. The winner will be notified by December 8, 2004.
