Sen. Lisa Murkowski's Statement On Tony Knowles' Advertising

Anchorage, AK - "Tony Knowles has shown his true colors. For months, Tony has relied on half-truths and purposefully misleading information to distort my record.

Tony's latest radio ad, which says that I have done nothing for veterans, is a lie. My amendment adding $1.2 billion in veteran's health care spending has been included in the FY05 VA-HUD appropriations bill. This Congress and this President are responsible for the largest increase in veterans' funding in history, and I voted for that increase.

Knowles' latest television ads say that I voted against American jobs. The truth is, in 2 years in the Senate, I worked to pass the gas line - a project that will create more jobs than Tony could ever take credit for, even using his standard of distortion and rhetoric. Further, we just passed the FSC/ETI Jobs Bill that will bring jobs and revenue back to the U.S. from oversees. Tony criticizes me for that bill. Does that mean that he now opposes bringing those jobs home or the tax incentives for the gas line that were included in that bill?

To continue to purposefully perpetuate lies and misinformation is an insult to the intelligence of Alaskans."
