Congressman Young Supports Military Housing Improvement
Washington, D.C. - Alaska Congressman Don Young voted in the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 4879, the Military Housing Improvement Act. This bill raised the cap on the $1.2 billion in federal expenditures allocated for a program leveraging private capital to refurbish military family housing units considered inadequate by the Pentagon. The bill passed by a vote of 423 to 0 and will go to the Senate for consideration.
Congressman Young was pleased that the U.S. House of Representatives lifted the caps on military privatization spending, allowing Alaska's military personnel to continue to benefit from this successful initiative. Without raising the cap, the program would have violated budget rules and would have been potentially cancelled.
"Housing privatization has proven itself an effective means to quickly provide needed, updated housing for our military members. One just needs to look at what's going on at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage to see how well this process can work. I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that this legislation continues to benefit our Alaska military families," said Congressman Young.
