Gun Owners Of America Endorses Miller
Group Says Both Murkowski & Knowles Opposed Gun Rights
Fairbanks, AK - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Miller announced that he has received the endorsement of the Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund, a national organization that lobbies to defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners.
In a letter to Miller, GOA Executive Director Larry Pratt states, "GOA-PVF is dedicated to electing leaders who will not compromise in their defense of Second Amendment rights. You are the only candidate for Alaska's U.S. Senate seat with a proven and consistent legislative record defending the freedoms of gun owners. Both Democrat candidate Tony Knowles and Republican candidate Lisa Murkowski have voted to limit our Second Amendment freedoms."
Miller said he appreciated the endorsement of GOA, a group that has been described as "the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington" by Congressman Ron Paul of Texas. "Lisa Murkowski had the worst record on Second Amendment issues of any Republican in the Legislature," commented Miller. "In contrast, I have always been a stalwart defender of the rights of gun owners. The endorsement by Gun Owners of America recognizes that I am the only U.S. Senate candidate with a trusted, consistent record on this issue."
Lisa Murkowski received a "D" rating in 2002 from the National Rifle Association. The NRA described a "D" candidate as "An anti-gun candidate who has frequently voted for restrictive gun control legislation or made strong statements in opposition to Second Amendment rights, and regardless of public statements can definitely not be counted on in key votes."
Miller stated that the NRA's description of Murkowski was accurate then, and it remains accurate today. "Lisa Murkowski has not apologized for a single anti-gun vote," Miller said. "Indeed her campaign spokesman told the Anchorage Daily News that Lisa had "thoughtful and well reasoned intentions for the votes she's cast." Ironically, the other politicians who shared her "thoughtful intentions" were liberal Democrats and anti-gun Governor Tony Knowles. I don't trust Lisa to protect my Second Amendment freedoms, and neither should the rest of Alaska's gun owners."
