Miller Takes Aim At Murkowski On Gun Rights
Radio Ad Questions Flip-Flop on Second Amendment Votes
Delta Junction, AK - Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Mike Miller announced that his campaign began airing a new radio message that focuses on Lisa Murkowski's anti-gun rights record in the State Legislature, where she earned a "D" rating from the NRA after joining forces with Democrats and Governor Knowles to oppose legislation protecting Second Amendment freedoms.
"During her four years in Juneau, Lisa Murkowski had the worst record on gun rights of any Republican in the Legislature," Miller said. "So how do you go from having a D rating, to being endorsed by the NRA? Lisa is in a quandary: either she was wrong back then on gun rights, or she's wrong now. Which is it? If she was wrong back then, Murkowski owes an apology to Alaska's gun owners for working tirelessly to undermine their rights."
Murkowski's complete record on Second Amendment issues is posted on the Miller campaign website at www.MikeMiller2004.com. The new radio ad cites just one example of Murkowski's anti-gun votes, when she voted for a Democratic amendment that attempted to remove from a legislative resolution a clause stating that the Second Amendment "protects the inalienable right of American citizens to keep and bear arms." Murkowski was the only Republican in the entire Legislature who voted to strip out this language.
Miller said Murkowski was completely unique among Republicans in her opposition to Second Amendment freedoms. "When I was in the Senate, the Legislature passed by overwhelming margins a bill to help ease the transfer of federally regulated firearms, Senate Bill 130," said Miller. "Lisa Murkowski was the ONLY Republican to vote against the bill. Then, after Governor Tony Knowles vetoed the bill, the Legislature met in joint session to override his veto. Lisa Murkowski abandoned her Majority colleagues and was the ONLY Republican who stood with Tony Knowles, and defended his veto."
Miller noted that Murkowski's "D" grade from the NRA was lower than many Democrats. "Between now and Election Day, we will be reminding Alaska's gun owners that even liberal Democrats like Fran Ulmer, Johnny Ellis, and Ethan Berkowitz scored higher with the NRA than Alaska's appointed Senator," said Miller. "On gun rights, Lisa Murkowski cannot be trusted."
