Miller Ad Targets Murkowski's Liberal Record
Radio Message: No Difference Between Murkowski & Knowles
North Pole, AK - Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Mike Miller announced that his campaign began airing a new radio commercial that focuses on Lisa Murkowski's liberal record in the Alaska Legislature, where she routinely allied herself with former Democrat Gov. Tony Knowles.
"Lisa Murkowski was one of the most liberal Republicans in Juneau, and now Alaska's appointed Senator continues that liberal record in Washington," said Miller. "Our new radio ad tells the story that Lisa Murkowski doesn't want Republican voters to hear. It tells how, on crucial issues, she routinely betrayed her Republican colleagues and sided with liberal Democrats and former Governor Knowles. This is why so many current and former Republican elected officials are refusing to support Murkowski in the Republican Primary. Lisa's response is to criticize them for not being 'team players' - which given her past record, displays amazing arrogance."
The radio message focuses on Lisa Murkowski's votes to impose a statewide income tax, use taxpayer dollars for abortions, and oppose Second Amendment freedoms. On all three issues she sided with Democrats and Knowles, and against the majority of her Republican colleagues. The ad also criticizes Murkowski for waffling on the upcoming Senate vote regarding same-sex marriage.
"When Lisa Murkowski was appointed by her father to replace him in the U.S. Senate, I had the highest hopes that she would turn over a new leaf and actually start behaving like a Republican," Miller said. "Unfortunately, her much talked about 'move to the right' is more symbolic than substantive. The respected National Journal magazine ranked her as the sixth most liberal Republican out of 51 in the U.S. Senate, based on her votes in 2003. She ranks as the second-most liberal Republican west of the Mississippi."
Miller's campaign ads began airing on radio stations in Anchorage and Mat-Su, and will be running in Fairbanks and the Kenai Peninsula beginning Wednesday. Miller said he expects the radio message will resonate with mostly conservative Republican Primary voters. "As Election Day draws closer, more and more Alaskans will realize that choosing between Lisa Murkowski and Tony Knowles is like having no choice at all. My record as a trusted conservative is more in keeping with the values of the vast majority of Republican Primary voters."
