Juneau, AK - The Murkowski administration announced the third bond issue of the Alaska Municipal Bond Bank Authority in 2004. The bond issue will save the Kodiak Island Borough, the City of Palmer, and the City of Petersburg an estimated $494,000. Savings are achieved by the strong credit rating of the bond bank and efficiency in operation by pooling multiple community bonds into one bond bank bond issue. Hazardous Conditions Advisory

Users of Yukon River in and Around Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve

Large fires in and around the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve have created hazardous conditions. There are several active burning fires along the Yukon River. Smoke conditions are constantly changing because of erratic and variable winds. Visibility may be as little as a few hundred feet on the river. Fire operations are active near and on the river.

Because of the conditions, recreational boating on the Yukon River between the communities of Eagle and Circle is not recommended at this time. All boaters are encouraged to reschedule their trip.

In addition, be advised that road travel to and from the river and surrounding areas may be restricted. The Taylor and Steese Highways have been closed intermittently due to fire and smoke conditions.

"Gordon's contributions to the fishing industry in Alaska are almost too numerous to mention," said Murkowski. "Gordon was a passionate advocate for our fisheries resources, a strong leader and a man of integrity. He was an advocate for sound science and conservation. Senate Passes Program To Combat Youth Suicide

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski welcomed Senate passage of legislation that would set up a grant program to states to develop programs to prevent youth suicide.

Murkowski was an original co-sponsor of legislation (S. 2634) that provides grants to states to develop and implement state strategies to reduce both pre-teen, teen and college-age youth suicide rates. The law, the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act, named in honor of the son of Oregon Sen.
