BP Exploration, State Reach Tax Settlement
State to receive $18 million
Anchorage, AK - BP Exploration, (Alaska) will pay the state $18 million under an agreement to settle two years' worth of disputed production taxes, the two sides announced. The payment is expected to be made on Thursday.
The settlement covers disputed production taxes for 2000 and 2001 on BP's share of oil production at the Prudhoe, Kuparuk, Endicott, North Star and Milne Point fields......(FULL TEXT)

LBA And Senate Resources Committees To Hold Additional Hearings
Anchorage, AK - The Legislative Budget & Audit Committee and Senate Resources Committee will hold joint hearings on Alaska natural gas pipeline September 1 and 2, 2004.
Monday's, September 1st, hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will take place at the Anchorage Legislative Information Office at 716 West Fourth Avenue in the second floor conference room. Tuesday's hearing will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the same location.

PRIMARY ELECTION RESULTS: Thank you to each of the candidates in the August 24 election! I know from experience that campaigning is hard work. Special congratulations to the winners who advance to the General Election. I was pleased with the performance of the staff and poll workers for the Division of Elections. The election was conducted at 439 polling places across our large State with very few malfunctions or challenges that could not be fixed. Predator Control Permit Applications Available
Applications to participate in state-sponsored predator control programs are now available from Alaska Department of Fish & Game offices.
Permits to land and shoot wolves will be issued for Game Management Units 13A, B and E in the Nelchina Basin and in Unit 16B west of Cook Inlet. Governor Murkowski Activates National Guard Troops for Wildfire Duty
Juneau, AK - Four Army National Guard aircraft and 53 Guardsmen have been activated to help fight wildfires in the Interior and Kenai Peninsula, Governor Frank H. Murkowski announced.
Murkowski is sending two Army National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters to Fort Wainwright on Tuesday where they will assist in fighting Interior wildfires that have consumed 5.4 million acres.
